Vishakham Thirunal Rama Varma, the then Maharaja of Travancore, said at the time of the Mullaperiyar Treaty
"This is the contract I wrote with my heart's blood" He signed the contract with great mental anguish. His mind must have whispered that something he was going to do was a big risk.
Today, the dam has become a nightmare for four million people and a threat to their very lives.
What is the value of human life given by governments that evade the Mullaperiyar Dam by saying "there is no threat now".
Are they waiting for crocodile tears to be shed about the past tragedy when Kerala becomes the biggest disaster land the world has ever seen?
Forty lakh people in Kerala are going to die if this accident happens. That is one tenth of the total population of Kerala.
Even if it is said that there is only one in ten thousand chances for such an accident, not even a person of conscience can sleep peacefully.
According to a UN study, Mullaperiyar is one of the 100 dams that need to be demolished as soon as possible.
So nothing is a rumor!
