International Men's Day was yesterday!!!
I am sure that many of you do not even know it! But International Women's Day was not like that. Men and women alike were there to remember and write about that day. But no one comes forward to talk about or worry about the real problems the male community is facing. We have the illusion that this is not something that should be discussed.
When a boy is born, he has certain duties and powers that are assigned to him. He is the breadwinner of the family. The family will survive only by raising him well. Males have to carry this excessive burden of hope while they are still children. A slight dimming of that hope will make him a 'inefficacious' among others. Then onwards, he is useless to his family and community.
The title "inefficacious" is reserved for men. Even those who argue for equal participation of men and women in the workplace have never heard of giving the "inefficacious" title to a girl.
To study like a man, to work like a man, to be free through society as a man!!!
Some young people come into their home like thieves for the sole reason of being unemployed, some young people always skip because of the hospitality that relatives have towards the unemployed in the family, and their number who end their lives when insults and ridicule are unbearable is many times greater than the number of girls who commit suicide at their husband's house.
How many hashtags were born ???
How many brothers did you support ???
Not enough colour, not enough style, not a six-pack, not enough education, not enough job... Many young men are degraded from their homes for trivial reasons especially when it comes to their marriage. How many boys have asked you the same question in return for insisting that you only listen to a government official?
Why does no one argue for the same equality in marriage counselling discussions?
Wives have their husbands to complain to when their mother-in-law's insults and troubles at home become unbearable. But the number of wives who try to question the plight of men who endure mental and physical abuse in the workplace to make make a living is very small.
According to WHO studies, men are several times more likely than women to have health problems such as heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, cancer, suicidal tendencies and other mental disorders. But Health Kerala does not seem to address such issues with much importance.
The main reason for this is that there is no space to speak with an open mind.
Most people believe that a man is good enough to solve his problems. Similarly, some men believe that complaining and crying is an insult to their race.
That being said, gender equality is not complete where a man wants to own only the special comforts he enjoys. He should always be ready to accept the hardships and ridicule he experiences like others.
We have to stand with him and support him with the view that he too has a lot to do socially. Then the word "equality" will have some meaning!!!
