New PTE Speaking Module Update: Two Trial Question Types
Hey everybody, welcome back to another update here from English Guru. In this post, we're diving into the latest update from PTE, focusing on two new question types introduced in the Speaking module. We'll cover everything you need to know – from why these questions are being introduced to how you should approach them.
Important Dates
Firstly, let's address the timeline. From December 11, 2023, to the end of January 2024, PTE is trialing two new question types in both the PTE Academic and PTE UKVI tests. These questions are specifically in the Speaking module.
Purpose of Introduction
So, why is PTE doing this? The primary aim is research. PTE wants to understand how users respond to these new question types. The underlying motive might be to potentially introduce these questions permanently in future tests, such as the upcoming PTE Core test applicable for Canadian immigration.
Question Types
The two new question types are:
Responding to a Situation: You'll be presented with a scenario and an audio prompt. For instance, you might need to explain why you want to take a holiday from school.
Discussion Summary: You'll listen to a discussion between three people, and after the audio ends, your recording begins. You have to summarize the discussion.
How to Identify
To identify these questions, look for the keywords "discussion" or "situation" in the question prompt.
Should You Attempt Them?
Here's the crucial part: these questions are unmarked. Whether you attempt them or not won't impact your score. My recommendation? Skip them. If you still want to give them a shot, you can treat them like Retell Lecture. Note down keywords during the audio and use them in your response.
Conclusion
In summary, these changes are in place for the trial period only. They won't affect your scores, and you can easily spot them by looking for specific keywords in the question. Keep your focus on the tasks that contribute to your score, and you'll do just fine.
Remember, nothing substantial has changed. This trial runs until the end of January 2024. If you have any questions or doubts, drop them in the comments. And if you found this post helpful, don't forget to like, share, and subscribe. Best of luck with your PTE journey!
