Don't Ever Watch 'PUZHU' | Mammootty | Malayalam Movie Review by Guru

This year's lineup is an example of Mammootty's recent experimentation with character selection.  Mammootty's next film after Bheeshma Parvan and CBI 5 had gained the attention of the audience for other reasons as well.  The fact that Parvathy Thiruvothu is also playing a major role in the film starring Mammootty along with a director who has fascinated the audience.  Unda's screenwriter Harshad has once again raised the bar of hope.

Mammootty's first direct OTT release 'Puzhu'. First of all, I would not say anything much about the story because of spoilers so as you can enjoy it at your comfort anytime anywhere! But here is the reason why you shouldn't watch it!
Mammootty's character is a retired police officer.  He lives in a flat in the city with his son, a schoolboy.  The director slowly invites the audience's attention to the daily life of this character, who always seems to be shrouded in a veil of insecurity.  The film examines how unnatural his living environment may seem at first glance and what led him to a surface of chronic fear. The film manages to entertain as well as inform. Along with the central character, the spectator who is assigned to travel with his fears and insecurities is also preparing for an unexpected event that could happen at any moment near the end.
The authors have used the story of Parikshit Raja and the serpent Takshakan in the Mahabharata as a metaphor in the film.  Harshad's story is scripted by Harshad, Suhas and Sharfu.  Mammootty, the hero who completed his career in the police officer's chair, is also a character with a gray shade who takes off after a long hiatus. Mammootty is the hero of the movie which has used the freedom of narration as a direct OTT release movie.  Mammootty's growth as an actor is a testament to the fact that he's got a character after a long time to convince the audience.  Mammootty's character grows slowly in front of the audience with a film that feels sharp in the narrative as it slowly begins and ends.  The protagonist, who begins to sway on the screen with the feeling of wrinkle-free confidence of a man who has completed his official life in the uniform of a police officer, gradually travels through levels of insecurity, fear, panic and hallucinations.  It takes a long time for Mammootty to get such a subtle and complete character sketch. Indeed, he has made it unforgettable.
Parvathy Thiruvoth plays Mammootty's younger sister.  Parvathy's character is ready to live with her beloved partner in remarriage despite the opposition of her family.  Although marriage is a happy marriage, they also have problems with separation from their family.  Through a few characters and the intricacies of a small plot, the film points to the reality of a caste that remains unchanged in human minds over time.
Ratheena's first film was presented to the audience without giving the impression of a newcomer director.  Filmed in limited spaces with few characters, the film focuses on the mindscape of the characters, especially the central character played by Mammootty.  Ratheena has done it beautifully in a narration that demands the skill of a director.  And they can be proud of the fact that the actor in Mammootty has been given such a chance to perform.  There are some moments in 'Puzhu' that can be boldly added to the list of some of Mammootty's all-time great acting moments.  That is the power of the film.

Theni Ishwar is the cinematographer of the film.  As mentioned earlier, Theni Eshwar's camera captures the limited space as a psyche of the central character and the conflict he experiences.  He used a color palette that felt almost colorless and somewhat frozen.  'The worm' will be the least minimal work that Jakes Bijoy has ever done.  Prior to its release, the cast had not said much about the film.  However, the film had a huge hype despite the OTT release as a separate attempt by Mammootty. So, I personally suggest everyone not to watch it, if you watch it, then definitely you will be an ardent fan of Mammootty even if you're someone else's fan!!!
