Kaduva Movie Review: A simple masala film, nothing more; 'Kaduva' Review by Guru

Prithviraj, Vivek Oberoi starrer Kaduva Malayalam Movie Review & Rating:

Director Shaji Kailash's comeback film after a long gap, Prithviraj as a mass hero, Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi as a villain again in Malayalam... If we leave some special features aside, this is a plain masala film that doesn't deserve any hype!

As seen in the trailer, 'Katuva' is the heroic story of a planter named Katuvakkunnel Kuruvachan, played by Prithvi. Money, manpower and single-mindedness are more than usual for Kuruvachan. In the meantime, I.G. Ousepukutty, another chief of Pala and highly influential in the Kerala Police done by Vivek. Kuruvachan has a falling out with Joseph Chandy (Vivek Oberoi). Starting with a small ego clash, the two end up as enemies. The hero and the villain go through ups and downs and the hero cleverly takes down the villain in the climax. And a tail end that ends with a hint to the audience that there might be a second part. This is the plot of Kaduva in a nutshell.

Like regular Shaji Kailash films,  Kaduva celebrates the hero with long dialogues and mass action scenes. Prithvi has celebrated his role as a mass hero after a while. Prithvi's Kuruvachan also reminds the body language of Koshi in the movie Ayyapanum  in many places. To overcome this, it seems that the white and white dress code given to the hero is a strategy seen by the director. With designer accessories, a white kurta and a white mundu, the hero has given an overall style makeover.
Vivek Oberoi has also nailed his role as the villain who accompanies the hero. Samyukta Menon plays Prithvi's wife in the film. Samyukta is not particularly important in the plot. Alencier, Baiju Santhosh, Seema, Kalabhavan Shajon, Janardhanan, Arjun Asokan, Rahul Madhav, Priyanka, Suresh Krishna and Kottayam Ramesh are the other stars of the film.

Also the weird part I think is that Prithvi is not suitable in such a role especially with the name Kadivakkunnel Kuruvachan. His figure doesn't match the name and it feels like the real Kuruvachan is someone else. The audience can only imagine senior actors with such a name like Suresh Gopi, Mammootty etc...

The background music of the film is composed by Jakes Bijoy. I think the action scenes make the film engaging. Mafia Shashi and Kanal Kannan team's action choreography deserves appreciation. Kuruvachan, who hangs all the policemen like flowers and throws them, is sure to satisfy the audience of mass masala films.
The film is jointly produced by Prithviraj Productions and Listyn Stephen's Magic Frames. Katuva is written by Ginu Abraham who is the director of Adam John and screenwriter of London Bridge and Masters. The frames by Abhinandan Ramanujam and the overall color tone of the film are impressive.

But the fact that there is nothing new in 'Kaduva', which follows the stereotypes of mass films, will disappoint the average moviegoer. 'Kaduva' ultimately has nothing to claim other than being one of the many 'celebration films' directed by Shaji Kailas himself. Only those who like mass movies go that way.
